Scholarship Awards

 The Lake Zurich Lions Club Scholarship committee looks for well-rounded students with character that have demonstrated academic success while pursuing such activities as athletics, community service, work opportunities, and other extracurricular school activities.

Jessica Miro
...lives in Lake Zurich and attends Lake Zurich High School. She ranks 56 in a class of 508. Her planned areas of study are Business and German.  Jessica is an Honor Roll Student and an Illinois state Scholar.  She is a member of National Honors Society, has worked with Habitat for Humanity and is a member of German and Interact clubs.  She has competed with the Ela Soccer Club and on the Girls Soccer team at Lake Zurich High School. 

Jessica has been selected to receive the Annette Pagh Memorial Scholarship award and will receive $5,250.00 in educational assistance.  


Neil Misak
...lives in Deer Park and attends Carmel Catholic High School. Neil ranks 20 in a class of 360. His planned area of study is Electrical Engineering. He is an Honor Roll student and a member of the National Honor Society. Neil has competed on the Carmel Wrestling and Baseball teams.  He’s volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Society Clothing Closet and Food Pantry and worked the St Francis de Sales Community Dinners.   Neil is a member of Mu Alpha Theta mathematics honor society and is the National Honor Society Treasurer. 

 
Neil has been selected to receive the Lion Fred Garlock Memorial Scholarship award and will receive $2,500.00 in educational assistance. 


Karen Dionesotes
...lives in Lake Zurich and attends Lake Zurich High School.  Karen ranks 25 in a class of 508. Her planned area of study is Biomedical Sciences and Pre-Med.  Karen is an Honor Roll student and is on the Daily Herald Leadership Team.  She’s a member of National Honor Society and on Student Council.  Karen has competed in Track and Cross Country and Scholastic Bowl.   She has volunteered at the Relay for Life, Chicago Marathon and Alpine Half Marathon.

Karen has been selected to receive the Lion Harold Giese Scholarship award and will receive $2,500.00 in educational assistance.

Elizabeth Littell

Elizabeth has been selected to receive the Annette Pagh Memorial Scholarship award and will receive $5,250.00 in educational assistance.

Elizabeth lives in Lake Zurich and attends Lake Zurich High School. She ranks 58 in a class of 517. Her planned areas of study are Psychology and Secondary Education. She plans to attend school at the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign.  Elizabeth is an Honor Roll Student and a member of the National Honors Society and The Tri-M Music Honor Society.  She was a Section Leader and captain of the Color Guard.  She was a member of the LZHS Pom Squad, Varsity Dance Team and Band.  Elizabeth participated in the Ryan York Walkathon, Charity Week activities, the Relay for Life, and the “Dream for Kids” program at the JFK Health World.  


Kevin Sweeney

Kevin has been selected to receive the Lion Fred Garlock Memorial Scholarship award and will receive $2,500.00 in educational assistance.

Kevin lives in Lake Zurich and attends Lake Zurich High School. Kevin ranks 46 in a class of 517. His planned area of study is History and Secondary Education.  He plans to attend the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. He is an Honor Roll student and a member of the National Honor Society. Kevin has competed in Football, Basketball and Track.  Kevin currently works at the Lexington Nursing Home.  He’s volunteered for the Special Needs Athletic Program (SNAP) and Special Olympics.  He participated in the Teens Against Tobacco Use group and the Omega Drug Program, a peer mentor program that teaches freshmen about a variety of struggles they’ll have to overcome such as drinking and peer pressure.


Ashley Smith

Ashley has been selected to receive the Lion Harold Giese Scholarship award and will receive $2,500.00 in educational assistance.

Ashley lives in Lake Zurich and attends Lake Zurich High School. Ashley ranks 96 in a class of 517. Her planned area of study is Engineering. She plans to attend school at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Ashley is an Honor Roll student and member of the National Honors Society. Ashley won the LZHS Board’s Community Service Award.  She was active in Girl Scouts and the Orchesis Dance Team. She was a Leader in the Omega Drug Program.  She competed on the varsity Softball and Science teams.  She has been a counselor at the Barrington Park District Camp and led a food drive supporting the St. Francis De Sales Church Food Pantry. 

**Eighteen applications from Lake Zurich High School and two applications were received from Carmel High School.
